Our School Design

KLA Schools is known for its upscale and modernly designed preschools. From the moment you walk into one of our facilities you will fall in love with the look and feel of the enriching environments. As soon as you enter the wide welcoming corridors of the school known as the Piazza and the abundant natural and recyclable materials found in the schools Atelier (Art Studio), you will embark on a visual journey that will leave you amazed.

KLA originated back in 2008 when its first location was opened in Brickell, near Downtown Miami by Candy Arocena and her husband Roberto, along with a group of investors and educators. In the years to follow, they proceeded to open a total of four corporate owned schools all located in the South Florida area. With both the vision and the resources to generate a national, Reggio Emilia inspired childcare franchise, the founders created the KLA Schools Franchise Program in 2010. Since 2010, KLA and its founders have awarded more than 15 franchises nationwide.

OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

KLA is a dynamic, developmentally appropriate program that is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy to early childhood education.

We see each child as a competent, powerful, curious, and creative individual. Our school educators trust that the play the children engage in has value. They see play as a tool that children use as they explore and attempt to make sense of their world. Through play children test their ideas, solve problems, and find joy in their activities.

Collaboration between teachers, parents and the children is an integral part of the educational experience at KLA. Our goal is not simply to build a strong, warm and nurturing connection with each child, but to extend that connection to our community of parents.

By working in a collaborative group setting, children learn critical life skills such as compromise, reasoning, respect for others opinions and enhancement of their sense of community and more.Children have their own strengths and interests, and when given the opportunity to share, they help expand the knowledge of their peers and teachers.

As our little investigators are exploring how to learn, we provide them with a welcoming and inspiring place where a wide variety of materials, both natural and man-made, are available to them. We call this place our Atelier. Here children of all ages come individually or in groups to express their thoughts through the exploration of materials such as clay, tiles, paper rolls, foam tubes, wire among others.

In identifying the interests of the child and facilitating their exploration of these ideas in a collaborative environment with strong and loving relationships we create compassionate individuals with a lifelong love for learning.

 

The Reggio Emilia Approach

The Reggio Approach derives its name from its place of origin, Reggio Emilia, a city located in Emilia Romagna in Northern Italy. Shortly after the Second World War, the parents of this region collaborated with Loris Malaguzzi, a lifelong educator, innovator and creative philosopher to found a unique public system of childcare education.

Loris Mallaguzzi and the parents of Reggio Emilia Italy where devastated by the destruction that took place during World War II and believed that the approach to education had to fundamentally change. “This led to creation of a program based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through a self-guided curriculum.”

The Reggio Approach is increasingly recognized as a resource of inspiration to educators throughout the world. It is a complex system that respects and puts into practice the fundamental aspects of the work of Dewey, Piaget, and Vygotsky and many others. Under our guiding principles you will see how the Reggio philosophy has come to influence our work.
